Looking After Your Emotional & Mental Health
Your emotional and mental health is about how you feel inside—your feelings, your thoughts, and how you cope with things.
How you can take care of yourself

Talk about your feelings
If something is bothering you, try to talk to someone you trust—like a parent, teacher, or friend.
You can say:
- “I feel sad today”
- “I’m worried about something”
Notice and name your feelings
All feelings are okay—even the tricky ones like anger or sadness. They are your brain’s way of telling you something.
You might feel:
- Happy
- Worried
- Angry
- Excited
Do things you enjoy
Doing things you like helps your brain feel happy and calm.
Examples:
- Playing
- Drawing
- Listening to music
- Being outside
Give your brain a break
Sometimes your mind needs a rest—just like your body.
You can:
- Take deep breaths
- Sit quietly for a moment
- Have calm time away from noise
Look after your body too
“Your body and your mind work together.”
Helpful habits:
- Get enough sleep
- Eat regular meals
- Move your body (run, play, stretch)
Be kind to yourself
It’s okay to make mistakes—you are still a great person.”
Try thinking:
- “I’ll try again”
- “I did my best”
Ask for help when you need it
You are never alone. If something feels too big, ask for help.
Everyone has ups and downs with their feelings. Looking after your mental health means noticing how you feel and getting help when you need it—and that’s a really brave thing to do.
